

Society + A DiabeticSitting in a shopping centre, Retail shopping makes me feel better. In the food court for my lunch, Now here comes the social crunch. Pull out my BGL meter and prick my finger, Squeeze out blood, beside the strip my finger lingers. BGL is ok, Now let’s see what the old ladies say. Pull out the syringe and the vial, See if their anger I can riel. Draw up the insulin; stick the needle in my leg, Push down the plunger; pull the needle out my leg. Watch their faces, watch their eyes, Watch them say their prayers to the skies. They think I am a drug-o, That iSociety + A Diabetic

My pulse is no longer pounding.
I try to get to my feet, I make a grab for the glucos moniter, I prick my finger and draw blood, I realize I have been beat.
My number is down off the scale, My glucagon is not within reach, My eyes are aflutter, My voice cannot even let out a wail.
